History
Precision Biomarker Resources was founded by scientists from the Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Program at Children’s Memorial Research Center (CMRC) in Chicago, Illinois. Precision Biomarker Resources’ Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Eric G. Bremer, pioneered the use of Affymetrix gene expression analysis for molecular profiling of cancer while at CMRC. In addition, Dr. Bremer and his team developed novel bioinformatics packages to analyze the data generated from these microarray-based experiments. In 1999, he partnered with Affymetrix under its core lab program to launch a microarray core facility at CMRC in support of his research and the work of other leading pediatric disease investigators.
As the use of microarrays became ubiquitous in biologic research, it became obvious that there was a growing need for dependable microarray services outside the traditional academic core facilities. Investigators who did not use microarrays regularly and did not have their own dedicated facility were being left behind. Even where complete systems existed, the quality of the data was often lacking because technical staff with experience processing microarray samples and analyzing the data were unavailable. Precision Biomarker Resources was founded in response to this service gap. By providing easy access to reliable microarray processing services and a highly trained, dependable technical staff, Precision Biomarker Resources has made the use of microarrays in research accessible to every scientist.
